SODIUM ALGINATE Description Sodium Alginate is a naturally occurring anionic polymer that is commonly derived from brown seaweed and is used as a gelling, thickening, and stabilising ingredient. It helps to preserve moisture in cosmetics and is used as a foam stabiliser in shampoos as well as an emulsion stabiliser in lotions and creams. It's a fine white, somewhat milky powder that gels without the need of heat, meaning it turns into jelly when exposed to water.
